THE BRITISH CONNECTION
WITH TINA:
The Rolling Stones
first brought the Ike and Tina Turner Revue over to England in 1966
and introduced them to the British Audience. Then in 1969, Ike and
Tina toured with The Rolling Stones. In fact, it was Tina who taught
Mick Jagger how to dance the Popcorn and the Pony.
Even back then,
when Tina was still performing with Ike , she loved to sing rock tunes
such as HONKY TONK WOMAN, COME TOGETHER and more.
When Tina left
Ike she had to start over in her life and her career. With the help
of her new manager Roger Davies, she updated her image and rebuilt
her career. Davies booked Tina into the Ritz Club in New York to create
a buzz. Loyal Fans, and such British Rock Royalty as David Bowie,
Keith Richards,Rod Stewart, and more were there to see her. Rod even
joined her on stage to sing his hit HOT LEGS. Tina later appeared
with Rod at his performance at the Los Angeles Forum, which was televised
via satellite to over 40 million people around the world.
Then came another
invitation from England. The British Electric Foundation (BEF) ask
Tina to sing one song,a classic 1970 Temptations song-BALL OF CONFUSION.
Tina enjoyed her first solo success in the UK. The song became a single
and was deemed successful, successful enough to get the attention
of Capital Records.
Tina was signed
to Capital records and recorded her first solo hit LETS STAY TOGETHER
with British producers Martyn Ware and Greg Walsh, and became a Top
Ten hit and sold a quarter of a million copies. In 1983, she was presented
a Silver Disc Award after her show at the Venue in London. LETS STAY
TOGETHER was also hailed as 'top dance record of the year' in America,
with sales finally topping eight million worldwide.
In 1982 , Tina
and her band (without IKE) were once again ask to accompany the Rolling
Stones on their sell-out tour. After seeing her at the Ritz, the Rolling
Stones invited Tina to sit in and sing a song with Mick Jagger on
their Tour. Britain embraced Tina and the Rock Stars Claimed her as
one of their own.
In 1985, Tina
Turner's records filled the radio and TV stations worldwide and she
was on tour. David Bowie, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, and
more came to pay their respects and celebrate her long overdue success.
Elton John and Tina performed his song THE BITCH IS BACK. Performing
with the British Rock Royalty was something Tina and the Brits loved
to do. Whenever the occasion presented itself, they joined one another
and set the fire. David Bowie once said while performing a number
on stage with Tina during her tour,"This is the hottest place in the
universe!!!
David Bowie then
featured Tina on TONIGHT when he recorded it in Canada in 1985. Both
appeared at different times and performed live at each others concerts.
Mark Knopfler
of Dire Straits wrote Tina's title track PRIVATE DANCER which was
released in 1984, which gave her superstar status in the USA and abroad.
Tina received a Grammy for WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT from that
CD and began one of many world tours.
Tina Turner was
the highest ticket sales for the year 2000, with over eighty thousand
people attending her concerts. The next highest sales was for the
group N' SYNC which totaled seventy six thousnd. TINA WILL ALWAYS
BE THE QUEEN OF ROCK!

an original singer/song writer. Hollie spent 15 years as a bandleader/singer
performing all styles of music and then in 1985, surprised the audience
one New Year's Eve by donning Tina Turner's attire and attitude. The
audience loved it, and a star was reborn. In 1993, Hollie received
the Grand Ball Entertainer Award for her 15 years of performing throughout
Southern California. In the same year she was given Best Female R&B
"Reel Award" from International Celebrity Images. The
